According to the BBC, authorities installed a mobile AI-powered camera unit recently in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. This technology, provided by National Highways, is part of Safer Roads Humber’s initiative to improve road safety in the region. “This state-of-the-art equipment boosts our monitoring capabilities,” said Ian Robertson of Safer Roads Humber.
How AI Cameras Work
As detailed by Tech Times, these AI road cameras analyze vehicles to identify drivers using mobile phones and occupants not wearing seatbelts. When the camera detects a potential infraction, it captures an image, which an officer then reviews for verification. This process ensures accuracy and fairness in law enforcement.
Penalties for Infractions
Drivers using a mobile phone while driving face significant penalties, including a £200 fine and six points on their license. Authorities impose a £100 fine for not wearing a seatbelt, with the driver held responsible for passengers under 14. In some cases, authorities may offer an educational course as an alternative to penalties, aiming to educate and improve driver behavior.
